The Boffi — panoramic views over the viaduct

Just 30 minutes from Millau, the Boffi via ferrata sits in the Dourbie Gorges with spectacular views of the viaduct. Two routes run on from one another: a yellow route accessible from age 8 (rungs, gangway, monkey bridge) and a more committing red variant for teenagers and adults after a bigger thrill. Perfect for a first time as a family — the yellow route stays at a sensible height while still serving up a memorable panorama. Allow a 25–30 min approach walk from the car park to reach the wall.

“The Boffi is the spot I bring families and first-timers to. The yellow route stays within reach for children from age 8, but with a real atmosphere — gangway, monkey bridge, views of the Millau viaduct. For teenagers and adults after a thrill, the red variant turns up the heat with a more exposed crossing on the panoramic net.”

Frequently asked questions — Boffi

Do you need to be sporty to do the Boffi via ferrata?

For the yellow route (family), no: normal fitness is enough, and it lasts ~2 hr 30 with breaks. For the red route (sporty), normal fitness is enough too — there's a crossing on the panoramic net and a few slightly overhanging sections. Florian adapts to the group and can switch between the two routes in real time.

What's the minimum age for the Boffi?

The yellow route is accessible from age 8 (minimum height 1.20 m). It's an excellent site for a first time as a family: gangway, monkey bridge and views of the Millau viaduct.

The red route is recommended from age 12 (more committing, crossing on the panoramic net).

What's the difference between the yellow and red routes?

The yellow stays at a sensible height, with accessible technical sections: rungs, gangway, monkey bridge. Lasts ~2 hr 30. Family atmosphere.

The red adds a more exposed variant, with a crossing on the panoramic net (you stay inside the net) and a few slightly overhanging sections. It remains more accessible than the full red at Liaucous. Lasts ~3 hr. For teenagers and adults after a thrill.

Where can you park at the Boffi?

A dedicated parking area is available on the Nant road (D991), 25–30 minutes' walk from the start point (the approach walk is a little longer here). From Millau, allow ~30 min by car. GPS coordinates and meeting point are given on booking.

What happens if the weather's bad?

Light rain or wind isn't a problem. In a thunderstorm, however, the outing is cancelled and rescheduled free of charge where possible.

What gear should I bring?

All safety gear is provided: helmet, harness, lanyard with shock absorber (fall-arrest kit), carabiners and a pulley for the zip-line (inspected PPE).

You bring: closed shoes (trainers or approach shoes, no flip-flops), sports clothing, 1 L of water, energy bars, a cap, sun cream. A small backpack is handy for the approach walk.

What's the maximum group size?

For via ferrata, Florian guides up to 10 people per outing. For a larger group, we arrange several time slots — get in touch and we'll adapt.
