Izéki — vertical adventure at Roc Aiguille
At Roc Aiguille, in the Tarn Gorges, Izéki is an easy, magnificent multi-pitch route: big jugs everywhere, with grades of 5A · 4C · 4C · 4C — the higher you go, the easier it gets. You climb across several pitches, from belay to belay, in the shade all day long. The view is breathtaking, especially on the final arête pitch that ends with a 35 m abseil. It's suitable even for complete beginners with no fear of heights (Florian belays the whole way, you never lead) as well as for those who want to push further. Only the walk-in is in the sun, so remember to stay well hydrated. To the right, Florian has also equipped the Yuna route, a slightly more committing alternative if Izéki is busy.
The essential gear
Three elements that form the safety chain — Florian explains them during the briefing and stays by your side for every move.
The Rope
The umbilical cord that ties you to your partner. This vital piece of safety equipment has a breaking strength of over 2 tonnes.
The triangulated belay station
At each belay station between two pitches, triangulation spreads the load evenly across the anchors. Florian explains it and sets it up on the spot.
The belay system
The reverso, the last link in the chain, lets you slow or lock off the rope and belay the climber from the belay station. The belayer's hand never leaves the rope.

“Izéki is an easy multi-pitch with big jugs everywhere, and it's in the shade all day long — you climb in the cool even when it's 35° down below. With the view from the arête at the top, the multi-pitch atmosphere is simply magical.”

Frequently asked questions — Multi-Pitch
Do I need experience to climb Izéki?
Yes. Izéki is a multi-pitch route, not a beginner activity: you already need to master the basics (tying in, belaying, moving on top-rope) and be comfortable at height. If you're a beginner, start with an introduction at La Muse or Pas de Soucy — Florian assesses your level when you book.
What level do I need for this multi-pitch?
It's an introductory to intermediate multi-pitch — accessible even if you've never climbed, as long as you're OK with heights. No need to climb independently or lead: Florian belays the whole way and acts as the fail-safe. And if you already master the basics, we can push a little further.
What gear should I bring?
All climbing gear is provided: helmet, harness, climbing shoes, rope, quickdraws, belay device. The gear is inspected PPE and suits all body types (children included).
You bring: sportswear, thin socks, 1 L of water, a snack, a cap and sun cream.
You can also come with your own gear: any climbing PPE that's in good condition and up to date is welcome (helmet, harness, shoes — comfort ones preferably —, single or double lanyard, reverso, prusik). Tell us in your message what you have, and we'll make up the rest.
How long does the outing last?
Allow around 4 h, car park to car park, depending on the rope team's pace. Florian tailors the programme to your level and the number of pitches.
Can you climb other routes at Roc Aiguille?
Yes. Izéki is one of the routes at Roc Aiguille — there are others, including Yuna just to the right. And on request, Florian can take you into the Jonte Gorges, which have close to 300 routes, to discover adventure terrain and placing protection. Mention it when you book.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Light rain or wind aren't a problem. In the event of a storm, however, the outing is cancelled and rescheduled free of charge where possible.
I'm a beginner — is it possible?
Yes, it's possible! Izéki is an easy multi-pitch: as long as you're OK with heights and you put your half-day in Florian's hands, it goes really well, even if you've never climbed. Florian belays the whole way. And if you'd rather lay the foundations on the ground first, the introduction at La Muse or Pas de Soucy is a great way in.
How many people maximum?
On a multi-pitch, we go in a small group: 2 to 3 people, 4 at most, for safety and smooth flow at the belay stations.
