1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) by the website you are visiting. It allows information to be stored (preferences, browsing, session identifier) so as to recognise you on subsequent visits.
The escal-adventure.fr website also uses equivalent trackers (in particular localStorage), which are subject to the same rules as cookies under the French data protection authority (CNIL). Throughout this page, the term "cookie" covers all of these trackers.
2. Cookie categories offered
The banner displayed on your first visit distinguishes three categories, each with a different level of control:
Essential cookies (always on)
Essential to the operation of the site, they cannot be disabled. They are used solely to remember your choice regarding the other cookie categories — so as not to display the banner again on every page.
Analytics (optional)
These make it possible to understand how visitors use the site (most-viewed pages, journeys, visit duration) in order to improve it. The statistics produced are aggregated.
Current status: analytics are carried out using a self-hosted solution operated by Deiro Digital, on its own servers. No data is transmitted to Google, to any advertising network, or to any other third party. As long as you have not given your consent, this measurement works without placing a single cookie; if you accept it, it places the cookies listed in section 3.
Marketing cookies (optional)
These make it possible to measure the effectiveness of the advertising campaigns run by Escal'Adventure (Google Ads).
Current status: no advertising script is loaded and no marketing cookie is placed until you have explicitly accepted it. If you decline, nothing is sent to Google.
3. Cookies actually placed
What is placed depends solely on your choices on the banner.
Before any consent — and if you decline everything
| Name | Type | Purpose | Retention period |
|---|---|---|---|
ea_cookie_consent |
localStorage (essential) | Stores your choice on the cookie banner (accepted, declined, customised) | 13 months |
That's all: no third-party cookie, no advertising cookie, no tracking pixel. Analytics, meanwhile, then work without any cookie.
If you accept analytics
| Name | Type | Purpose | Retention period |
|---|---|---|---|
_pk_id.* |
Cookie placed by the site itself | Recognise a visitor pseudonymously from one visit to the next | 13 months |
_pk_ses.* |
Cookie placed by the site itself | Identify the current visit | 30 minutes |
_pk_ref.* |
Cookie placed by the site itself | Remember the source of your visit (referring site) | 6 months |
These cookies are not read by anyone else: the data stays on Deiro Digital's servers, in Europe.
If you accept marketing cookies
| Name | Type | Purpose | Retention period |
|---|---|---|---|
_gcl_au |
Google Ads cookie | Measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns (conversions) | 90 days |
| Google / DoubleClick cookies | Third-party cookies | Attribution of advertising conversions | See Google's policy |
The Google script is only loaded after your consent. If you withdraw your consent, no further marketing cookie is placed.
4. Managing your choices
You can change your preferences at any time in several ways:
- by clicking "Manage cookies" at the bottom of every page of the site (link in the footer);
- by resetting the banner through the deletion of the
ea_cookie_consenttracker in your browser settings; - by blocking or deleting cookies directly from your browser (see section 6).
Good to know: declining all cookies in no way prevents you from browsing the site. Almost all of the content is static and accessible without any cookie.
5. Retention period of preferences
In accordance with the CNIL's recommendation, your choices regarding cookies are stored for a maximum of 13 months. At the end of that period, the banner will be presented to you again to renew your consent.
7. Changes to this policy
This policy may be amended at any time, in particular when a third-party service is added (analytics, embedded video, etc.). The date of the last update appears at the top of the page.
