Liaucous — the cliff at the mouth of the Tarn Gorges

Just 5 minutes from the village of Mostuéjouls, the Liaucous via ferrata climbs a south-facing limestone wall within a striking rock amphitheatre. Three hours of equipped adventure: rungs, a footbridge, monkey bridges and a zip-line (optional) follow one another in a listed landscape. Accessible from age 8, the route adapts to your level — Florian fine-tunes the difficulty in real time to suit the group. And the combo is what makes it special: on the very same wall you can add a Night on the Wall, suspended in a portaledge.

How your outing unfolds

An equipped afternoon in the Gorges Via Ferrata by day, vertical bivouac by night

The equipped Liaucous route offers 3 hours of vertical adventure in complete safety — footbridge, rungs, monkey bridges and a zip-line (optional) flow one after another on the south wall. Guided by Florian, from age 8.

At Liaucous you can follow the afternoon via ferrata with a night suspended in a portaledge — a bivouac platform anchored to the wall, tens of metres above the ground.

Florian Vizier, State-certified instructor

"Liaucous is one of my favourite sites. It's also where I run the Night on the Wall, suspended in a portaledge. For the via ferrata on its own, it's one of the most complete routes in the region — it has it all: the rungs, the big footbridge, the monkey bridges, the zip-line. And above all, the view over the Tarn Gorges from the top."

Frequently asked questions — Liaucous

Do you need to be fit to do the Liaucous via ferrata?

No — a normal level of fitness is enough. The route lasts around 3 hours with natural breaks at the technical sections. You just need to be comfortable climbing ladders and walking across the footbridge. Florian adjusts the difficulty to the group: there are both easier and more committing variations.

From what age can you do the Liaucous via ferrata?

From age 8 or 1.20 m tall: meeting just one of these two conditions is enough to sit safely in the harness. Liaucous is a great family site — children love the big footbridge and the final zip-line. Teenagers and adults get their fill too, thanks to the more committing variations.

What does the Via Ferrata + Night on the Wall combo include?

The combo starts at €180/person: the private via ferrata in the afternoon, followed by an evening on the wall at sunset. To spend the full night suspended in a portaledge, allow €230 (1 person) / €320 (2 people) — specialist gear included (comfort harness, bivouac lanyard, sleeping bag).

A Big Wall package is available on quote for those who want to go further (big walls). Details on the Nights on the Wall page.

Where can you park at Liaucous?

Free parking is available in the hamlet of Le Liaucous, a 5-minute walk from the starting point. GPS coordinates are given when you book. From Millau, allow 30 min by car (D907); from Montpellier, 1 h 40.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Light rain or wind aren't a problem. In the event of a storm, however, the outing is cancelled and rescheduled free of charge where possible.

What gear should I bring?

All safety gear is provided: helmet, harness, lanyard with shock absorber (fall-arrest kit), carabiners and a pulley for the zip-line (inspected, certified PPE).

You bring: closed shoes (trainers or approach shoes, no flip-flops), sportswear, 1 L of water, energy bars, a cap and sun cream. A small backpack is handy for the approach walk.

What is the maximum number of people?

On a via ferrata, Florian guides up to 10 people per outing. For a larger group, we arrange several time slots — get in touch and we'll adapt.
